Dan Rontree

Dan Rontree commenced his architectural career in 1989 and has now gained over 22 years of experience in the Architectural Profession working at such places as John Roberts Architects, Stephen Roberts Associates, CAD Associates & LK2.

During this time Dan has learnt his trade from a number of very experienced members of staff, starting with the basics of the Architectural Office regime back in the days when drawing board skills were paramount. Dan moved on in 1995 where he was tempted by the opportunity to further himself by working with more responsibility on significantly larger projects & training on Computer Aided Design.

Invaluable experience was gained whilst working as Senior Assistant to the Project Architect on a number of large projects in the Football sector. This work sector represented a boom industry and was as the result of the introduction of the Lord Justice Taylor report after the Hillsborough disaster. The majority of these large scale projects were completed using ‘JCT with Contractors Design’ contract formats. This work demanded the compilation of major packages of production information, including full working drawings, in all formats, schedules, major elements of highly complex construction detailing along with co-ordination of applications for Planning Permissions, Building Regulations & major consultations with Local Authority Safety Advisory Groups for Football Licensing etc…

These projects included major re developments at such clubs as Lincoln City FC, Wycombe Wanderers FC, Peterborough United FC, Burnley FC, Tottenham FC & West Ham United FC.

Dan was also given the opportunity to run smaller scale new build & refurbishment projects procured through the ‘Traditional’ JCT Intermediate contract for a major further education establishment in Preston giving a good variety of experiences , acting as lead consultant and whilst also operating as contract administrator.

Due to the vast experience gained in all sectors of the industry and the number of professional relationships formed over his uninterrupted career in Architecture since 1989, Dan decided in August 2004, to set up his own practice.

The practice was initially formed as a one man operation, when soon after Kevin Coupland MCIAT joined the practice and still remains to this date, now as a joint director of the company.

The experience gained since 2004 by Heronswood Design has seen them work through, and survive some of the most torrid financial circumstances since the 1990’s recession. During this period, their work load has gone from strength to strength and remains to do so.

We put this down to the dedicated service and support that we offer all of our clients, regardless of project size, in navigating their way through what becomes a more & more complex and technically challenging industry.

Through the vast experience gained during his time in the Architectural Industry Dan is just about to embark on formalising his qualification with the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists, with a view to join them as a Profile Member and will shortly be compiling his ‘POP Record’ with a view to becoming a full member of the Institute (MCIAT).
